Chic harbour district next to historic buildings

Not far from Hamburg’s Michel, visitors to the city can marvel at a piece of Hanseatic tradition: the quaint Krameramtsstuben from the 17th century. Built between 1620 and 1700, the historic half-timbered houses are the only completely preserved courtyard buildings in Hamburg and have been listed since 1933. Originally, the Krameramtsstuben were intended as flats and retirement homes for the widows of the city’s grocers. Today there are a few small shops and a cosy restaurant here – an attraction for both Hamburgers and tourists. In the quaint alley with its historic half-timbered houses, Hamburg’s history can be experienced up close amidst the urban hustle and bustle of the port metropolis.
