As Lower Saxony’s largest city lake, the Maschsee in Hanover is one of the most popular destinations in the region. On the north shore is the so-called “strolling mile” of the lake with the picturesque promenade and numerous restaurants and cafés. Especially at weekends, many families, couples and day trippers can be found strolling along the Maschsee. The local recreation area is also popular with sports enthusiasts: in addition to swimming in a segregated swimming area and water sports such as sailing, pedal boating, rowing and surfing, there are always plenty of joggers to be found along the six-kilometre-long lakeside path. Numerous sports competitions such as the spectacular dragon boat race or the Hannover Marathon also take place regularly at the Maschsee.
