Here you can feel the spirit of old scholars and students: in the Old Assembly Hall of Heidelberg University. Located in the historic building of the Old University, it was used for a long time as a lecture hall for academic teaching. On the occasion of the five hundredth anniversary of the Ruprechts-Karls-Universität Heidelberg in 1886, it was redesigned according to the plans of Josef Durm. Even today, there are numerous portraits and busts of founders, patrons and the most important scholars of the university, who were honoured in this form from its founding until the 19th century. Today, the Old Assembly Hall mainly serves as a glamorous venue for concerts, lectures and academic celebrations of all kinds.
