Medieval castle ruins in a spectacular rocky setting

Hohengrundersingen Castle is spectacularly situated on a steep rocky spur in the Great Lauter Valley. The small castle with the impressive keep was part of a large complex that was built in the river valley in the course of the Middle Ages around the year 1200. The structure of the castle is unusual, consisting of a small core castle and an outer castle, which was built 16 metres down to the valley over several terraces. In addition to the keep, the redoubt, which offers a beautiful view into the distance, is also well preserved. Hikers and cyclists can reach the castle ruins of Hohengrundersingen via signposted hiking trails or various cycling tours.
