Here is the old center of the old imperial and trading city on Lake Constance: Lindau’s market square. The square is designed as a largely closed quadrangle, in the center of which is the famous Neptune Fountain. Along the square are the historic Haus zum Cavazzen, St. Stephen’s and Stiftskirche churches, and the Hotel Stift. While the market square used to be on the edge of the monastery district on the eastern side of the island, today it is the center of the old town, where numerous old streets and alleys converge and are connected to the nearby main street by the adjoining squares. The weekly market and changing events are held regularly on the market square.
