Anyone arriving in Lindau from Lake Constance will immediately recognise the special feature of the old town: it is located on an island of about 68 hectares in Lake Constance. The townscape is dominated by the famous harbour entrance with lighthouse, Bavarian lion and the Alps in the background. Lindau’s old town has numerous medieval and baroque houses, narrow alleys and winding squares, which, together with the palm trees to be found here and there, give the town a Mediterranean ambience. The market, the churches, the town hall and other historic buildings in Lindau’s old town are well worth seeing. Another highlight are the 15 knowledge pylons that explain scientific phenomena.
