A testimony to the rococo period is the lakeside palace of Monrepos, which Duke Carl Eugene had built between 1785 and 1764. As the third of Ludwigsburg’s castles, it was christened with the French name for “my peace”. Today, the picturesque lakeside palace is a popular location for weddings and events, and in summer it is the venue for the annual Ludwigsburg Palace Festival Classic Open Air with light shows and fireworks. In the castle itself, real gems can be visited, such as the ice cellar, the remains of the Dianen fountain and the former officers’ building. At the lakeside castle you can also hire a pedalo or rowing boat and admire the romantic scenery from the water.
