Along with the Landgrave’s Castle and the Elisabeth Church, it is one of the three undisputed landmarks of the university town: Marburg’s town hall. Situated on the historic market square in the middle of the old town, the town hall has been the centre of the town administration and town life for more than 450 years. A special feature can be observed every hour on the hour on the Renaissance gable of Marburg’s town hall. Here there is a rooster that lifts its wings and “crows” after the four chimes. Actually, this acoustic signal meant the trumpeter, who is also located on the staircase gable. But a “crowing cock” on the town hall fits much better, of course!
