As early as the Middle Ages, Meersburg harbour was used for trade, and today it is a centre of attraction for the many tourists who visit Meersburg every year. In the course of the 19th century, the harbour was gradually expanded to provide a mooring for the modern steamships of the time. Today, Meersburg harbour is the starting point for many excursion and event trips on Lake Constance. In addition to passenger ships, car ferries also dock and disembark here. An eye-catcher in the harbour is the so-called Magic Pillar on the harbour pier, which was designed by Peter Lenk. With this work of art, he depicted events and personalities related to Meersburg’s town history.
