Off to the porcelain city

When you hear the name Meissen, the first thing that comes to mind is certainly the world-famous porcelain. And you will come across it at every turn in Meissen’s old town. Porcelain has been produced in the Saxon town since 1720 – first in Albrechtsburg Castle and since the end of the 19th century in the State Porcelain Manufactory. There are also numerous historical monuments and sights to be found in the picturesque alleys. These include Meissen Cathedral and the Frauenkirche (Church of Our Lady), both built in the late Gothic style. A particularly beautiful view of Meissen’s old town can be had from a vantage point to which the Frauenstufen lead.
