It is undoubtedly the heart of Miltenberg: the Old Market Square. With the beautiful half-timbered houses and the market fountain from 1583, it characterizes the Miltenberg townscape. The fountain in Renaissance style was made of red sandstone by sculptor Michael Junker and decorated with dancing putti. Another eye-catcher in Miltenberg’s Old Market Square is the Schnatterloch Tower at the edge of the square. This has a passage to the forest, which leads directly to the Mildenburg. The Schnatterloch, which gives the tower its name, is a hole from which a drainage channel leads from the tower to the marketplace. No wonder this picturesque square with its historical buildings is one of the most popular photo motifs in Germany.
