In 1601, the moated castle outside Bad Rappenau in Baden-Württemberg was built by Eberhard von Gemmingen. At that time, the castle grounds were still surrounded on all sides by the water of the castle lake. In 1904, the lake was drained and only a moat remained. After the purchase of the moated castle by the municipality of Bad Rappenau and the establishment of the spa, the castle lake was partially restored. Of the former sanatorium, the Kneipp facility in the castle park can still be seen today. After the city administration was housed in the moated castle from 1980 to 1991 and the public order office from 1995 to 2000, it is now used for cultural events.
