The steel lift bridge from 1916 is an industrial monument in the centre of Plau am See. When ships travel on the Elde to the lock or to Lake Plau, the bridge is lifted by about 1.60 metres, making it the highest lift bridge in Mecklenburg. Before the current steel bridge was built, a wooden bridge stood in the same place. The lift bridge was saved from being blown up in 1945 and was renovated and equipped with new drive technology in 1991 and 2000. Before the possibility of remote control, a lock keeper had to cycle to the bridge to operate it by hand.
