The imposing tower of the parish church of St. Martin in Plau am See can be seen from afar. From April to October, tourists can climb the 120 steps to enjoy the breathtaking view over the town and lake directly from the belfry. Built in the 12th century as a hall church with three naves and three bays, the church worth seeing is now a popular tourist destination in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania. No wonder, then, that the Foundation for the Preservation of Ecclesiastical Monuments in Germany chose the church as Church of the Year 2012. From June to September, the parish church of St. Martin in Plau am See is the venue for the annual Plau Music Summer.
