The Lautertal valley in the Odenwald is home to a very special natural spectacle: the Felsenmeer. The slope at Felsberg is covered with numerous mighty granite boulders that invite young and old to climb. After a detour to the visitor centre, you can climb the rocks to your heart’s content and enjoy the view from the giant column and the altar stone. The name Felsenmeer (sea of rocks) comes from the fact that the sometimes bizarre shapes of the rocks are reminiscent of the waves of a whipped-up sea that have solidified into stone. Accordingly, since the 17th century, numerous myths and legends have grown up around the famous Felsenmeer, which is not only an attraction for tourists but also for researchers.
