Late baroque building

A municipal chancellery stood on the site of Speyer’s historic town hall from the 15th century until 1689. After the destruction caused by the devastating town fire, the town council meetings were initially held in an inn before the new town hall was built between 1712 and 1725. The result was a stately late Baroque building, which was the seat of Speyer’s city fathers in the 18th and 19th centuries. A particular highlight of Speyer’s town hall is the council chamber, which is designed in the early rococo style and is often used for chamber concerts. Wedding ceremonies are often held in the historic town archives on the ground floor, which are well worth seeing.
