Summit Castle in the Kraichgau

Steinsberg Castle in the Kraichgau region was built in the 11th century and is today considered one of the most beautiful and worth seeing castles in the Kraichgau region. Built as a summit castle on a 60-million-year-old volcano of basalt cones, it impresses with its good preservation and special structure. The core castle with its ring wall, keep, palace, cistern and farm buildings is surrounded by three kennels and high gates for lancers. The yellowish colour of Steinsberg Castle is also striking, which is attributed to the use of red sandstone from a nearby quarry. In 1972, the castle complex was acquired by the municipality of Sinsheim and restored and reconstructed at great expense.
