Waldburg Castle in the Ravensburg district was built in the 12th century and served as the residence and seat of power of the Truchsess and Imperial Prince dynasty of Waldburg. For a long time, the rumour circulated that you could see Mont Blanc, 300 km away, from the viewing platform. However, this is not true. In the castle’s own museum, you can admire replicas of the imperial regalia of Emperor Frederick II that were kept in the Waldburg in the 13th century – the Holy Lance, Imperial Crown, Imperial Sword, Imperial Sceptre and Imperial Orb. Waldburg Castle is also a popular wedding venue: the castle chapel is often used for weddings and parts of the museum and the vault are used for celebrations.
