It is considered the “parlour” of the time-honoured university town – Tübingen’s market square. Characterised by the Tübingen Town Hall and the historic buildings from the 15th and 16th centuries, Tübingen’s market square exudes an almost homely atmosphere. It is therefore not surprising that it was voted the most beautiful market square in Baden-Württemberg in 2018. A popular meeting place for younger people is the Renaissance fountain. It was designed in 1617 by the artist Heinrich Schickhardt and shows Neptune and a trident as well as four female figures, which are supposed to represent the four seasons. The well-known poet and democrat Hermann Kurz lived in one of the houses on Tübingen’s market square.
