If you want a good view of Tübingen’s sights, you should stroll along the plane tree avenue on the banks of the Neckar. From the idyllic Neckar Island, you can see the Collegiate Church, the Hölderlin Tower, the Protestant Monastery and Hohentübingen Palace, which are located in close proximity to each other on the Neckar Bridge. No wonder, then, that the most famous photos of Tübingen are taken from the banks of the Neckar. The Hölderlin Tower, where the poet Friedrich Hölderlin once lived, now houses the philosophy and art history departments of the University of Tübingen. The Evangelical Monastery also had famous visitors in earlier times: in addition to Hölderlin, Hegel and Mörike also studied in the so-called Dichter- und Denkerschmiede.
