Another must-see when visiting Dresden is the Zwinger. This impressive work of art combining architecture, sculpture, and painting is one of the city’s landmarks. The Zwinger also houses some of the most important museums of the Dresden State Art Collections. Here you can admire masterpieces of art history in numerous exhibitions. Or you can visit one of the many concerts that take place regularly in the Zwinger. For culture fans, the Green Vault is an absolute highlight. In this historic museum collection, you can marvel at the baroque treasure chamber of the Wettin princes. In particular, the collection displays treasures from the 16th to 18th centuries. These include impressive goldsmith work and the famous malachite green room.

More than a hundred pubs, clubs, theaters, and cinemas ensure a lively nightlife here. Numerous galleries showcase contemporary art. If you’ve had enough of the hustle and bustle of the city center, you’ll find a wonderful retreat in Dresden’s Elbe River Valley. This idyllic river landscape with its vineyards, cycling and walking trails is a UNESCO World Heritage Site and invites you to relax. Also on the banks of the Elbe, which is also known as the Königsufer (King’s Bank), are the Ministry of Finance and the State Chancellery of Saxony. This is where the Brühl’sche Terrassen (Brühl’s Terraces) are located. Known as the “Balcony of Europe,” this vantage point offers a breathtaking view of Dresden.
Another highlight just outside the city of Dresden is Pillnitz Castle and Park. This former summer residence of the Saxon royal family is an impressive ensemble of botany and architecture. The beautiful palace park invites you to take long walks. It offers fascinating insights into the history and culture of the Saxon monarchy. With all these sights and many more, Dresden is an indispensable destination. It is ideal for anyone who appreciates culture, history, and nature in equal measure.
