The Richard Wagner Festival Theatre in Bayreuth is the venue for the internationally renowned Richard Wagner Festival every year between the end of July and the end of August. The opera house on the Green Hill was built in 1872 and is now one of the largest opera stages in the world. The Richard Wagner Festival House owes its outstanding reputation to its exceptional acoustics. This is due to the special architecture of the house, the wooden construction of the auditorium and the orchestra pit, which is up to 12 metres deep. Due to the unusual positioning of the orchestra below the stage, there is more direct contact between singers and audience and the orchestral sound emphasises the singing in a particularly harmonious way.
