Listed village on Rügen

Anyone travelling to the island of Rügen should definitely plan a visit to the idyllic fishing village of Vitt. The listed island village is located in the north of Rügen near Cape Arkona. The name can be traced back either to the Swedish word “Witte” for trading place or to “Vit”, a Slavic name. The origin of the fishing village can be historically dated to the 13th century. Besides the 13 thatched fishermen’s houses, the village chapel is also worth seeing. In 1973, the fishing village of Vitt was added to the UNESCO World Heritage List. The picturesque village is also famous for its regional fish specialities, which can be tasted in rustic restaurants.
