The Heidelberg Thing site on the Heiligenberg is a cultural monument of German history, visited mainly by tourists, hikers and forest walkers. Following the example of ancient Greek theatres, the National Socialists had the Reich Labour Service and Heidelberg students build an open-air stage here. This was to be used in particular for propaganda events. Over time, however, these became fewer and fewer until the Heidelberg Thing site was completely forgotten during the Second World War. Today, the site is considered a unique example of National Socialist architecture and is freely accessible. The Heidelberg Thing site is not used, as there are no structures of any kind and the site is neither fenced in nor illuminated.
