High above the Moselle and the old town of Bernkastel-Kues, with a fascinating view over the vine-covered Moselle valley, the Landshut castle ruins provide a picturesque setting for an excursion. The outstanding location in the Moselle valley has been used for a very long time, possibly the oldest castle in the Moselle valley stood here. In the 4th century, a late Roman fort was located here. Castle remains from the 5th and 6th centuries indicate that a castle already existed at that time. In 993, Landshut Castle was first mentioned in a written source.
