On to the largest castle in the Palatinate

In the middle of the Palatinate between Trier and Kaiserslautern is one of the largest castle complexes in Germany today: Lichtenberg Castle. The castle was built in 1200 and then frequently changed and rebuilt over the centuries. The building has been a listed monument since 1895. In its more than 800-year history, Lichtenberg Castle has never been conquered by enemies. However, it fell victim to a fire in 1799 and was almost destroyed. Today, cultural events are held here regularly. There is also a restaurant and overnight accommodation in the castle. Therefore, the largest castle in the Palatinate is a popular destination for excursions.
