If you are good on your feet, you can climb the 95 steps of the Marbach Upper Gate Tower to enjoy the great view over the beautiful old town. The 40-meter-high tower was part of the medieval city fortifications and was built in the mid-13th century. Thus, the upper gate tower, which was one of formerly three gate towers, is one of the oldest structures in the city. Besides the view, you can also admire an exhibition inside the tower. This tells the story of the Upper Gate Tower and the history of the Marbach city fortifications over a total of five levels. In earlier times, the so-called high guard lived on the top floor of the tower.
