If you really want to experience the cathedral city of Speyer, you have to have been to Speyr’s Maximilian Street. The well-known main street in the city centre connects the famous Speyer Imperial Cathedral with the Altpörtl city gate tower, with numerous restored baroque houses with many different gables in between. One eye-catcher is the unicorn head on the roof of Germany’s oldest pharmacy. Speyr’s Maximilian Street is home to a large number of shops and larger shops, which can be discovered during an extended stroll. The numerous cafés and restaurants along the promenade invite you to take a break. Speyr’s town festivals, such as the Old Town Festival or the Christmas market, also take place here regularly.
