Cultural event location "Cellar

Michelstadt Castle, also called “Kellerei”, dates back to the 14th century when the previous building from the 10th century was destroyed. The structure preserved today was originally the outer castle of the former town castle and surrounded by the town wall, which is also still preserved. From 1517 onwards, Michelstadt Castle was used mainly for residential and administrative purposes. Today, the former palace from 1506 and the granary, which served as a tithe barn for centuries, are still preserved. The well-known Michelstadt Diebsturm, which probably dates back to the 13th century, was also part of the castle complex. Today, many cultural events take place in the cellar.
