A walk through Miltenberg’s old town makes you feel like you’ve been transported back to the Middle Ages: beautiful squares with many museums and decorative half-timbered houses as well as numerous historic buildings. Miltenberg’s old town is particularly famous for its market square with its Renaissance-style fountain and arch and the famous Schnatterloch tower – the town’s landmark. Directly behind the tower, a path leads through the forest to Mildenburg Castle. Other sights of the town are the Old Town Hall, which was once used as a dance hall and council chamber as well as a store and warehouse, and the Würzburg Gate and the Mainz Gate. These served as town boundaries for centuries and were specially guarded by gatekeepers.
