At 2,244 meters, the Karwendel is an absolute attraction in the region of the same name. At the top station, there is an incomparable view down into the Isar valley to the historic climatic health resort of Mittenwald as well as to the Zugspitze with the Wetterstein mountains, to the Alpine foothills, small mountain lakes and to Krün and Wallgau. A special highlight at lofty heights is the Bergwelt Karwendel – Germany’s highest nature information center. Here, interested visitors learn interesting facts about the high mountains, endangered habitats and how to protect them. Bergwelt Karwendel is also an eye-catcher architecturally: The structure is designed from larch wood and towers seven meters above the abyss in the form of an oversized telescope.
