The beautiful old town of Schwetzingen is located on the so-called Castle Road, a vacation route from Mannheim to Prague. No wonder, because Schwetzingen has so much to offer its visitors. In the lively city center, it is wonderful to stroll and store extensively in the many attractive stores. Numerous cafés and restaurants give the old town a cozy atmosphere. The heart of Schwetzingen, however, is undoubtedly the castle with its well-preserved baroque palace complex. This once served the Electors of the Palatinate as a summer residence and hunting lodge and is now the landmark of Schwetzingen. Despite several attempts, Schwetzingen Castle has not yet been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.
