Pulsating centre of Würzburg

Würzburg’s old town delights visitors not only with its picturesque pedestrian zone with its numerous restaurants, cafés and shops, but especially with its high density of historical sights. The most famous are certainly St. Kilian’s Cathedral, St. Mary’s Chapel, the Old Main Bridge and Würzburg City Hall. In March 1945, almost 90% of the old town was completely destroyed in bombing raids and many houses burned down. A memorial in the Grafeneckart town hall commemorates this destruction. Today, numerous events take place in the old town which regularly attract many visitors. These include the Christmas market and the city festival in summer, as well as the wine parade, the Würzburg harbour summer and several street music festivals.
